Get your SAM.gov API key
SAM Submit searches SAM.gov with your own free SAM.gov API key, so your lookups always run on your own daily allowance. It takes about five minutes.
SAM Submit is for signed-in users
Sign in or create a free account to use it. A paid subscription is not needed to try it. Once signed in, add your own free SAM.gov API key so lookups run on your own SAM.gov allowance. See how to get your key.
- 1
Sign in to SAM.gov
Go to sam.gov and select Sign In. SAM.gov uses Login.gov, so sign in with your Login.gov email, password and code. No SAM.gov account yet? Select Sign In, then Create an account; it is free.
- 2
Open Account Details
Select your name or the profile icon at the top right of SAM.gov, then choose Account Details.
- 3
Enter your password to see the API key section
SAM.gov asks you to confirm your password (or Login.gov code) before it shows the Public API Key section.
- 4
Request or view your Public API Key
If you have never made one, select Request API Key. If you already have one, select View or the eye icon. SAM.gov may email you a confirmation first.
- 5
Copy the key
Copy the whole key (a long string of letters and numbers). Keep it private, like a password.
- 6
Paste it into SAM Submit
Paste it in the box on this page (or the reminder at the top of any page) and select Save key. Every SAM.gov lookup in SAM Submit starts using it right away: Respond, Compliance, the CRM, and SAMAwards.
Why your own key? SAM.gov limits how many lookups each key can make per day. With your own key, your searches never wait on anyone else's.
Daily allowance. A personal key with no role on an entity gets a small allowance (about 10 lookups a day). A key from an account with a role on your company's SAM.gov entity registration gets a much larger one (about 1,000 a day). Allowances reset at midnight UTC (8:00 PM New York time in summer, 7:00 PM in winter).
Keys expire every 90 days. SAM.gov emails you before it expires. When it does, request a new key on the same Account Details page and save it here again.
Where it is kept. On your account, readable only by you. It fills in automatically on any computer you sign in on. Test, change, or delete it any time on your Account page.
